College notes: 49ers change kickoff time Saturday

The threat of bad weather has caused Charlotte 49ers’ officials to change the kickoff time of Saturday’s homecoming game against Memphis.

The 49ers and Tigers will kick off their American Conference game at 11 a.m. – not 3:30 p.m., as originally scheduled.

The game will still be carried on ESPN+.

The National Weather Service is predicting that a cold front will move through the area Saturday afternoon, bringing a high chance of showers and possibly thunderstorms.

The 49ers already have experienced a weather delay once this season, as storms pushed kickoff of Charlotte’s game at App State two weeks ago to nearly 10 p.m.

Game day parking will open at 8 a.m., and other pregame events have been pushed up on the schedule.

49ers’ conference schedule set

The Charlotte 49ers have announced dates and opponents for the conference portion of the men’s basketball schedule this season.

The nonconference schedule was announced last week.

The 49ers will open American Conference play on the road, facing Florida Atlantic on New Year’s Eve.

The conference home opener will be Jan. 3, against last year’s conference tournament runner-up, Wichita State.  Charlotte will play five home conference games in January, after also playing five contests at home in December.

“The American Conference will be extremely competitive from top to bottom, and I expect us to be a multiple-bid league in the NCAA Tournament,” first-year head coach Wes Miller said.  “The conference has scheduled us in home-and-away series with the teams that are projected to finish at the top of the league.”
