Prep football playoffs … who is your team playing?
The road to the state high school football championship game runs through Hough … and Weddington … and Crest … and North Stanly … and Corvian community.
Those five schools won No. 1 West regional seeds in the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs that begin next Friday.
The No. 1 seeds will have home-field advantage all the way until the championship round.
Teams will be playing for a berth in the state finals, which are set for Dec. 10-12 at three sites – UNC/s Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill; Lenoir-Rhyne’s Moretz Stadium in Hickory; and at Campbell University in Buies Creek.
As tends to happen each year, several first-round games are rematches of contests played Friday night.
Neighborhood rivals Butler and Independence will meet at Butler, after Independence upset the Bulldogs 22-20 Friday night. Myers Park, which beat South Mecklenburg 35-0 Friday night, will face the Sabres again next Friday. Charlotte Catholic will open against Piedmont, the same team it beat Friday night.
