Friday Tourney Central: Lake Norman Charter wins volleyball
Lake Norman Charter closed out a memorable girls’ volleyball season Friday by downing Uwharrie charter 3-1 for the N.C. High School Athletic Association girls’ volleyball state championship.
It was the second 4A state crown in a row for the Knights, who finished with a 31-1 record.
Also winning a girls’ volleyball state championship was North Stanly, which took the 2A crown by a 3-2 score over Wake Prep.
Uwharrie Charter (28-5) pushed Lake Norman Charter early. The Knights rallied for a 25-21 victory in the first set, but Uwharrie Charter took the second set 25-23.
Lake Norman Charter then steadied itself and rolled in the final two sets 25-15 and 25-11.
The Knights’ only loss this season was to defending 7A state champion Marvin Ridge.
North Stanly (31-5) had to rally for its victory. The Comets dropped the first two sets 25-15 and 25-17. But they came back for a pair of 25-17 victories, forcing the fifth set. The final set was a back-and-forth affair, but the Comets held on 15-13.
