The QC Sports Report's Girls' Athletes of Week

Here are the Girls’ High School Athletes of the Week, as selected by the Queen City Sports Report.  Athletes honored here were nominated by their coaches:

Kami Caraccia, Lake Norman Girls’ Golf, Sr.: The Wildcats’ senior shot a one-under par 35, to earn medalist honors and lead her team to victory over Alexander Central and Jesse Carson last Tuesday at Brushy Mountain Golf Club.

Caraccia also shot an even-par 36, to finish second individually last Thursday as Lake Norman beat Pine Lake Prep at Mooresville Golf Club. Lake Norman is 4-0 overall this season.

 

Sloane Chesnuttt, Myers Park Field Hockey, Sr.: The Mustangs’ senior forward scored a goal and had an assist, to account for both scores, in a 2-1 overtime victory Aug. 24 over Providence Day. Chesnutt also scored a goal last Wednesday in a 2-1 victory over Charlotte Latin.

 

Chesnutt has three goals and two assists for Myers Park (3-1) this season.

 

Kennedy Gallentine, East Lincoln Girls’ Golf, So.: The Mustangs’ sophomore shot a three-under-par 33, leading the Mustangs to victory last Wednesday over Lincoln Charter at Verdict Ridge Golf Club. Gallentine is the defending 5A state, individual champion.

Natalie Hennessey, Charlotte Catholic Girls’ Golf, Fr.: Hennessey shot an even-par 36, with one birdie, to earn medalist honors last Tuesday in a Southern Carolinas’ 6A/7A Conference match at Harry Jones’ Golf Club. Hennessey also shot an even-par 36, with two birdies, in a (team) loss Thursday to Lake Norman Charter at Skybrook Golf Club.

 

Hennessey earned medalist honors in the first two matches of her high school career this week.

Ashten Humphries, Corvian Community, Volleyball, Jr.: An outside hitter/opposite, Humphries had 11 kills, 11 digs and three aces last Tuesday in a 3-0 win at Langtree Charter. Humphries also had nine kills, 10 digs, three aces and a block Thursday in a 3-0 loss to Community School of Davidson.

 

Humphries has 30 kills, 42 digs and 11 aces for Corvian Charter (2-2) this season.

 




Siena DiTomas, Mooresville Volleyball, Sr.: The Blue Devils’ senior setter had 71 assists, 23 digs, three kills and a block as Mooresville won road matches at Hough (3-0, last Tuesday) and at Community School of Davidson (3-2, Thursday).

 

DiTomas has 249 assists, 100 digs, 22 kills, eight aces and four blocks for Mooresville (6-6) this season.

 

Amy Wang, Marvin Ridge Girls’ Tennis, Fr.: The Mavericks’ freshman won a 6-1, 7-6 (13-11) decision at No. 1 singles to help Marvin Ridge to a 7-2 victory Thursday over rival Weddington. Wang also won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles with teammate Brynn Bell in the same match.

Wang is 1-2 in singles and 3-0 in doubles’ play for Marvin Ridge (3-1) this season.

 

Kalli Waugh, South Iredell Volleyball, Sr.: The Vikings’ senior right side/outside hitter had 10 kills and eight digs in a 3-0 victory Aug. 24 over Mallard Creek.

Waugh also had 10 kills and three digs in a 3-0 win at Hopewell, Aug. 27.

 

Waugh has 57 kills and 27 digs for South Iredell (4-3) this season.

 

Hallie Anne Winters, Gaston Christian Girls’ Golf, So.: The Eagles’ sophomore shot a 1-under-par 35, with two birdies, and led Gaston Christian to a 31-shot team victory Aug. 24 over Carmel Christian at Raintree Country Club’s South Course.

 

Winters also shot a school-record,67, with four birdies, to earn medalist honors Thursday at the Forsyth Country Day Invitational at Tanglewood Golf Club near Winston-Salem.

Holland Wilkins, Charlotte Country Day Field Hockey, Sr.: The Buccaneers’ senior scored six goals and had five assists as Charlotte Country Day went 3-0 last week, with road victories at Forsyth Country Day (5-0, last Tuesday), at Durham Academy (7-1, Friday) and at Ravenscroft (6-1, Saturday).

 

Wilkins, a Harvard University commit, has seven goals and five assists for Charlotte Country Day (3-1) this season.
