Here are the Queen City Sports Report’s Boys’ High School Athletes of the Week. Athletes were nominated by coaches:

 


Charlotte Latin's Erik Anglemyer
Charlotte Latin's Erik Anglemyer

Erik Anglemyer, Charlotte Latin Cross Country, Sr.: The Hawks’ senior ran 16:08.01 to finish as runner-up at the Western North Carolina Cross Country Carnival last Friday at Jackson Park in Hendersonville.

 


Anglemyer’s run also helped the Charlotte Latin boys to a first-place team finish in the championship division at the same race.

 





John Capps, Metrolina Christian Cross Country, Jr.: The Warriors’ junior ran a personal-best 16:03.40 to finish seventh at the Carolinas Kickoff Invitational last Saturday at Metrolina Christian. Capps’ time was a school junior class record and tied for second fastest in school history all-time.

Harding High's Daniel Carter

Daniel Carter III, Harding Football, Jr.: The 6-foot-4, 195-pound junior ran for 91 yards on six carries and had two catches for 12 yards to help Harding to a 47-21 win last Friday at Garinger.

 

Carter also had seven tackles, including three tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble in the game.







 

Jaxon Dollar, East Lincoln Football, Sr.: The 6-foot-5, 215-pound senior had a monster game with eight catches for 195 yards and a touchdown and 56 yards rushing on one carry in a 26-24 win at Providence in a game that spanned two days because of bad weather last week.

 

Dollar also had three tackles, two sacks, two hurries and an interception return for a touchdown in the same game for East Lincoln (2-0). He is a University of Georgia commit.

Parkwood High's Bryce Cooke

Bryce Cooke, Parkwood Cross Country, Sr.: The Wolfpack senior ran a personal-best 15:03 to win the Carolinas’ Kickoff Invitational last Saturday at Metrolina Christian.

 

Cooke, a Furman University commit, broke his previous personal-best time of 15:43.

He helped the Parkwood boys’ cross country team to an eighth-place finish in the 21-team field.

 

 

David Echevarria, Ambassador Christian Football, Jr.: The 6-foot-5, 215-pound junior quarterback went 19-for-27 for 402 yards passing and seven touchdowns in a 58-34 victory last Friday over Grapevine Faith Christian (TX) in Dublin, Ireland.

 

Ambassador Christian (2-0) was playing in the same event as the University of North Carolina and TCU in Dublin.

West Lincoln's Chase Driscoll

 Chase Driscoll, West Lincoln Soccer, Jr.: The West Lincoln junior goalkeeper had 10 saves in a 5-1 win Aug. 24 at Maiden. Driscoll also had five saves in a 4-2 victory Aug. 26 at Cherryville.

 

Driscoll has 71 saves for West Lincoln (5-1) this season.

 


Rowe Hopkins, Providence Cross Country, Sr.: The Panthers’ senior ran a personal-best 15:52.70 to finish fourth individually last Saturday at the Carolinas’ Kickoff Invitational (Championship Division race) at Metrolina Christian.

 

Hopkins led the Providence boys’ cross country team to a runner-up finish at the same meet.

Concord High's Christopher Marin

Christopher Marin, Concord Soccer, So.: The Spiders’ sophomore scored two goals and had one assist on Aug. 26, to account for all three goals in a 3-1 win at rival A.L. Brown.


Marin leads the team with five total points this season.





Keen Yount, Mount Pleasant Football, Jr.: The 5-foot-10, 165-pound junior quarterback went 7-for-9 passing for 97 yards and two touchdowns, ran for 106 yards on 14 carries and three more scores in a 44-26 win last Thursday at Jesse Carson.

 

Yount also had three, two-point conversions in the same game. Mount Pleasant is 2-0 overall this season.
