Thursday prep roundup: Buccaneers stun Latin

Charlotte Country Day knocked off previously unbeaten Charlotte Latin in girls’ volleyball Thursday, and the Buccaneers did it comfortably.

 

The host Bucs swept the Hawks 3-0, handing Charlotte Latin its first loss in 23 matches this season.  The Hawks entered the match with the No. 12 ranking in the state.

 

Charlotte Latin remains first in the CISAA, but the Hawks came up short by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-14.

 

As usual, Sanaa Mohammed led the Bucs’ offense, with 16 kills. Alex Roff, a mainstay of the defense, totaled 13 digs and added 26 assists.

 

Charlotte Latin is now 5-1 in the CISAA, to go with its 22-1 overall record.

 

Charlotte Country Day is 12-4 overall and 4-2 in conference.  The Bucs are tied with Cannon School for second place.

   Meck Power Six 7A/8A

 

Independence 4, Butler 4 (OT): Independence scored with about nine minutes left in regulation, tying the match at 3-3.  The Patriots then scored in the first five-minute overtime, but Butler scored in the second overtime on a shot that banged off the goal post.  There were 11 yellow cards issued in the match.  The result left the teams tied for first place with 3-0-1 records.
