Tuesday Tourney Central: 10 area golf champions
Charlotte Catholic’s Elizabeth Guthrie led a surge by Charlotte-area golfers, who won five individual and five team championships in the N.C. High School Athletic Association girls’ golf finals Tuesday.

Local golfers dominated all but two of the tournaments, with several players and teams capturing repeat titles.
Guthrie, a junior, was the standout at the Class 6A tournament, played at Sapona Golf Club in Lexington.
She had rounds of 70 and 69 on the par-72 course and repeated as 6A individual champ. And Charlotte Catholic repeated as team champion, winning by 35 strokes.
In Class 5A, also played at Sapona Golf Club, East Lincoln dominated. The Mustangs took the team championship, and Kennedy Gallentine and Sloan McKinney finished 1-2 individually.
Here is a summary of the results:
Class 8A: Pinecrest won by an overwhelming 56 shots, with a team score of 409. Ardrey Kell (465) and Hough (468) finished 2-3. Pinecrest golfer Ida Joshi, a sophomore, shot 66 in both rounds. Her 12-under score of 132 broke the state tournament record of 134, set in 2022 at Pinehurst No. 6 by Myers Park’s Elizabeth Rudisill.
Top local finisher was fifth-place Avery Gordish of Ardrey Kell, with a 151.
Class 7A: Lake Norman won a playoff with Cardinal Gibbons, after the teams finished with team scores of 525. Cox Mill was third.
Medalist honors at Seven Lakes Golf Club in West End went to Page’s Lily Cochran (12-over 156), who won a playoff with Cardinal Gibbons’ Olivia Erazmus. Kami Karaccia (Lake Norman) finished fourth.
Class 6A: Elizabeth Guthrie won by two shots over runner-up Aaron Makenzie of Northern Guilford. Charlotte Catholic’s Natalie Hennessey (150) was third.
Class 5A: Kennedy Gallentine shot an even-par 142 and had a 10-stroke margin over the runner-up, teammate Sloan McKinney. East Lincoln’s team score of 495 was 40 shots better than second-place Fike.
Class 4A: Lake Norman Charter repeated as team champion, with a score of 488 at Longleaf Golf and Family Club in Pinehurst. The Knights had a team score of 488, with Stuart Cramer (523) and West Stanly (576) finishing second and third.
Winsley Crotts of Stuart Cramer shot two rounds of 73 for a 2-over 146 total. Second-place Laila Vongsavah of Fred T. Foard was three shots back. Lake Norman Charter’s top finishers were fourth-place Seehe Veera and sixth-place Caitlyn Frisch.
Class 3A: Paisley Freda and her Pine Lake Prep team repeated as champions at Longleaf Golf and Family Club. Freda shot a 6-over 150, with rounds of 71 and 79. She won by two strokes. Teammate Taylor Pike (163) was fourth. Pine Lake Prep’s margin of victory was 17 shots over second-place East Rutherford. North Stanly was fourth.
Class 1A-2A: Jackson Day’s Landry Hamm repeated as 1A-2A champion, shooting rounds of 76 and 74 for a 6-over 150. Avery County won the team title.
NCHSAA volleyball
Defending 4A state champion Lake Norman Charter, perennial 6A power North Iredell, and North Stanly won regional final matches and advanced to Saturday’s state championships.
But defending 7A state champion Marvin Ridge, 8A semifinalist Ardrey Kell and Community School of Davidson (2A) came up short in their bids to reach the finals.
Coach Jessica Dupree’s top-seeded Lake Norman Charter team rolled over Forbush 25-15, 25-21, and 25-11. The Knights are now 30-1 on the season.
North Iredell survived a tough West regional final, downing Watauga 3-2. And North Stanly ousted Trinity 3-0, winning sets by scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-8.
Marvin Ridge came into its 7A West Regional final match as top seed against No. 2 Reagan. And the Mavericks raced to a 17-10 lead in the opening set. But Reagan battled back, taking a 20-19 lead on a Marvin Ridge return error. The Raiders went on to win 25-23.
It was all Reagan in the second set, as the Raiders built a 15-6 lead and coasted to a 25-8 victory. The third set was closely played, but Reagan won 25-22, with the winning point coming on a kill by Ely Randolph.
NCISAA boys’ soccer
Charlotte Country Day (4A), Concord Academy (3A) and Statesville Christian (1A) advanced to Saturday’s state championship matches with semifinal victories Tuesday.

Concord Academy scored twice in each half for a 4-0 romp over Cape Fear Academy. And Statesville Christian blanked Friendship Christian 3-0. Both Concord Academy and Statesville Christian are the top seeds in their classes.
NCISAA girls’ tennis
Charlotte Latin and Providence Day advanced to a showdown Saturday for the 4A state crown after winning semifinals Tuesday.
Latin, a very young No. 1 seed, got key victories from its No. 1, 2 and 3 singles players – eighth-grader Reese Gluck (No. 1), freshman Sophie Roberts (No. 2) and eighth-grader Caroline Stubbs (No. 3). The Hawks beat Durham Academy 5-3.
Providence Day advanced with a 5-2 triumph over Cary Academy. The Chargers lost both regular-season matches against Charlotte Latin.
In Class 3A, Davidson Day moved to the finals with a 5-1 victory over Arendell Parrott Academy. Freshman Mia Langone won in singles and teamed with Caroline Cerminara for a victory in No. 1 doubles.
NCISAA field hockey
Charlotte Country Day will face Cary Christian for the state title. Charlotte Country Day, the top seed, edged No. 3 Providence Day 3-2. Eva Parsons scored all three goals.
Charlotte Latin, the No. 2 seed, was eliminated in a 1-0 setback to Cary Christian.
