Monday roundup: Football, soccer, volleyball, and more
A long opening weekend of the high school football season finally came to an end Monday night, with Mountain Island Charter scoring a victory.
The schedule was stretched from one night (Friday) to four (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday), due to stormy weather late last week.
Mountain Island Charter launched its season with a fourth-quarter surge and a 29-15 victory over Lincoln Charter.
The Raptors scored a pair of touchdowns in the final period, on an An’dre Ramseur touchdown pass and a Brody Ward scoring run.
In Monday’s other game, Bradford Prep played its first varsity football game in school history. The Bears came up short, losing 32-22 to Thomas Jefferson Academy.

East Mecklenburg 5, Parkwood 1: Everth Reyes (two goals, two assists) and Trey Weiss (two goals) led the Eagles.
Independence 4, Palisades 0: Mark Verrat scored twice, and Fernando Claros and Sam Strand each added single goals for the Patriots.
