Wednesday roundup: Area boys’ soccer, volleyball and more

State-ranked Providence ended Pine Lake Prep’s hopes of a boys’ soccer upset in a hurry Wednesday evening.


The Panthers, ranked No. 7 overall in North Carolina by Maxpreps, scored four goals in the first half on route to a 6-1 romp over the previously undefeated Pride.


Providence improved to 5-1-1 on the season, as Jackson Woelfel scored two goals and added an assist. Woelfel, a junior, has a team-leading seven goals this season.


Jae Carmichael and Aiden Watkins each had a goal and an assist.


Pine Lake Prep fell to 3-1-1.
